‘A policy of exclusion only leads to injustices’ – FOR.U.M

FOR.U.M’s pending membership in the Economic and Social Development Council “absolutely cannot keep dragging on,” says President John Bencini.

The executive of Forum Unions Maltin (FOR.U.M) wrote to Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said to request that they remain informed on the latest developments on the confederation’s application to join the Economic and Social Development Council.

In the letter, FOR.U.M president John Bencini said the “saga has been ongoing for a number of years,” pointing out that the original request was made as far back as five years ago. “Because of this, the confederation deserves a reply.”

“This issue absolutely cannot keep dragging on,” Bencini said. “It is government’s duty to take a decision, which ever it may be.”

He affirmed that FOR.U.M’s position that a confederation of unions that spans 11 unions in sectors crucial to the country’s economic wellbeing cannot “be prevented from giving its contribution in a council establishment specifically so that social partners, government, employers, and unions, debate and cooperate to ensure national prosperity.”

Bencini maintained that a “policy of exclusion only translates in injustices and a lack of the social discourse which truly should be carried out.”
