World War II bombs discovered at Qrendi council during cleaning of well
Butterfly bombs and 3.7 anti-aircraft shells have been discovered in a well at the Qrendi local council
World War II bombs have been discovered in a well at the Qrendi local council.
Water Services Corporation employees were cleaning out the well when they discovered butterfly bombs and 3.7 anti-aircraft shells, according the a statement by the Qrendi local council.
The Bomb Disposal Unit within the Armed Forces of Malta dispatched to the scene and took the necessary precaution to make sure the bombs were gathered and taken to a secure place.
“We remind the public that during World War II, Qrendi was heavily targeted in bombing. In fact, the up to 17 war-time shelters can be found underground in the locality, many of which lead to private property,” the local council said.
