Outpouring of grief on social media following biker’s death
36-year-old Barry Zammit, lost his life in an accident in Hal Far Road on Saturday • Friends and acquaintances take to Facebook to pass their condolences to Zammit’s wife and son and to express their shock and dismay at their loss
Messages of condolences, shock and remembrance are flooding local Facebook pages and other social media following the tragic death of Barry Zammit, 36, on Saturday.
Zammit, from Hamrun, died in an accident at around 6pm as he was riding his motorcycle in Hal Far Road, in Hal Far.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. He was married and was the father of a little boy.
Following the tragic news, numerous friends and acquaintances took to social media to express their shock and dismay at the news, and to offer their condolence to Zammit’s family.
“We were shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. May he rest in peace,” wrote the AutoDefence Wing Tchun Malta club.
Lynn Abela wrote, “What a sad news tonight !!! Such a tragedy. RIP Barry. Please everyone be extra careful”. Francois Attard remebered Zammit: “Yesterday, I heard the news about the accident in Hal far ... I woke up and I saw that it was you Barry Zammit . At noon yesterday I saw you in front of where I live during your work … May you rest in peace my dear friend.”
Martin Buhagiar, too, was shocked to learn of his friend’s death. “It's always bad news when someone dies in an accident but it becomes shocking when that person is your friend. Rip. Barry Zammit I will always remember you with that smile on your face.”
Zammit became the 21st road accident fatality this year, the eighth to have died while driving a motorbike.
Another motorcyclist lost his life on the same stretch of road six weeks ago.
