Maltese enjoying long weekend – in different ways

With Republic Day taking place on a Monday, many Maltese and Gozitans are enjoying a long weekend.

But what do the Maltese plan to do on the day of a national feast?

Whilst half of the younger generation are probably recovering from yesterday's night parties, the plans amongst the middle aged seem to be divided by work, Christmas shopping ... or simply taking a much-deserved rest.

Some have opted to work on the day to make up for the shut down during Christmas and New Year’s week, whilst others have taken the opportunity to go Christmas shopping for themselves and for their loved ones.

On this sunny day, other families with young children have opted to tuck their kids in warm jackets and scarves and enjoy a picnic or a day out at the parks.

But for those who believe that Christmas is not Christmas without the traditional Christmas cake, Christmas log and other sweets, many housewives – including a few men – are dedicating the day to baking, beating, sprinkling, dicing and cooking Christmas sweets.
