€33,347,855 in EU funds, derived from the Cohesion Funds, have been secured and allocated for the Kappara junction project, parliamentary secretary for EU funds Ian Borg announced.
The project is valued to be worth €35,075,396 in total and aims at addressing the traffic congestion in the area.
Works on the Kappara junction project started in April and are expected to last at least a year and a half.
Preparatory works have been going on since last December, with Transport Malta carrying out asphalting and resurfacing works in localities close to the junction.
“The existing junction is no longer suitable to accommodate all this volume and for this purpose, an investment in road infrastructure is considered an important factor. This will also improve accessibility, safety, connectivity and sustainability”, Borg said, adding that this project will ensure early absorption of EU Funds.
