Drydocks sandblasting leads to more black dust
Sand-blasting works on a ship in the drydocks has led to Bormla residents having to put up with having their residences covered in black dust.
In a number of letters sent to the weekly newspaper Illum, Bormla residents expressed their ire and frustration at the situation. One long-term resident said she was "determined to fight for her health."
“We have been putting up with black dust for 10 years,” she said, “and now do we have to put up with sand blasting too?”
Illum reports how, for the past two weeks, the resident woke up every morning to a roof and washroom liberally covered in black dust that finds its way in between tiles and into the rest of the house.

Do our parliamentarians have any B***S? What are they waiting for to make it illegal for grit and sand blasting to be used at the dockyard? Why doesn't Palumbo carry out blasting in its Italian shipyards and defy the Italian laws which prevent such operations? When are the Local Councils and the Local Councils Association going to file a warrant of prohibitory injunction and hold Palumbo liable for any damages to the health of the residents? Or are the Mayors only interested in their Honoraria which presently amounts to 12,700 euros (Lm5452 every year) apart from their normal job salary when many workers earn only about half this amount if they are working at all? Are the Mayors more interested in their new Honoraria increase which the government is going to give them? ACTION NOW MAYORS AND POLITICAL PARTIES OR YOU CAN FORGET OUR VOTES.
