Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has appealed to investigators to do everything in their power to solve the case of the murder of Karin Grech and has urged anyone who might have information, to come forward so that justice can be done.

Karin Grech was killed 39 years ago when she opened a letter-bomb which was intended for her father, Professor Edwin Grech.

At the time, Grech had returned to Malta from the United Kingdom to take up the position of Head of Obstetrics at St Luke’s Hospital during an industrial dispute between the then Labour government and doctors, and as such was considered a strike-breaker.

“For the Grech family this is not about retribution or revenge, only justice,” said the Prime Minister.

Edwin Grech, Karin’s father, similarly expressed his disappointment at the fact that nobody has been held responsible for the murder of his daughter, despite the fact that he believes there are still people who could allow authorities to solve the case.

Both were speaking this evening as the Prime Minister together with a number of Labour Party officials and MPs laid flowers in front of the monument dedicated to Karin Grech in San Gwann.

Muscat said that earlier this month he had also paid tribute to Raymond Caruana, another victim of political violence.

“Both were victims of an intolerant society and a time which we hope never to return to,” he said.
