AD disapproves of Labour's support of hunters' lobby

Green party says PL should not take voters for a ride by involving itself in talks with FKNK over proposals to hunting laws.

Alternattiva Demokratika expressed its disapproval of the Labour Party's "maneuvering on the hunting issue" by supporting FKNK in talks over proposed amendments to hunting laws.

Simon Galea, AD spokesperson for animal welfare and agriculture, said: "Instead of insisting for the need of law enforcement and education campaigns such as professional captive breeding  programmes as an alternative to trapping, Labour chose to indulge in talks related to imaginary amendments to the present regulations.

"Together with the Nationalist Party, Labour is aiming to please everyone at the same time, rather than focusing on conservation and protection of the natural environment."

Michael Briguglio, AD chairperson, said both parties should treat hunting as a serious matter: "European directives make it clear that there should be no hunting in spring. Yet both parties are trying to bend these rules. Once again, both parties want Malta to be an EU member without being European at all."
