Maltese nun dies tragically in Israel

Maltese misionary nun Sister Salvatorina Camilleri has died in a car crash in Israel.

According to reports, which are currently being investigated by the Maltese embassy in Tel Aviv, the 67 year old nun was travelling in a van together with a group of four Italian nuns, two of whom who also died in the crash.

MaltaToday is informed that the accident happened not far from Beit She'an, which is close to the border with Jordan. The van they were travelling in, reportedly smashed into a lamp post.

Sister Salvatorina, who is from Mellieha was mostly known as Sister Victoria and has been in Israel for the past 30 years.

She was reportedly on a Christmas pilgramage in the Holy Land, which took the nuns to various holy places.

Sister Salvatorina was the administrator of a convent and church on the Mountain of Beatitudes, and belonged to the Franciscan Missionary Order in Egypt.

The Foreign Ministry, together with the Maltese Embassy in Tel Aviv are in contact with the Israeli authorities.
