Insurance agencies and brokers will be able to process the transfer of vehicle registered ownership online as from tomorrow, following an agreement between Transport Malta and the Malta Insurance Association aimed at reducing bureacracy.

The agreement will also see the end of customers being obliged to call Transport Malta’s offices for such a service.

The procedure requires the seller, buyer and a witness to sign the actual vehicle registration certificate at the back and present it together with a copy of their ID card at any authorised insurance agency or broker, who will issue a new insurance policy on the new vehicle owner.

The system will prompt all the related fees, including licences, administration fees, penalties, CVA fees, contraventions and any other fees for the transfer. These fees will be paid prior to the transfer process, Transport Malta said.

Once the transfer is processed, the insurance agency or broker will issue the new registration certificate in the name of the new buyer.

The measure is among the first steps Transport Malta is embarking on as it moves to digitalise its services, according to chairperson and CEO James Piscopo.
