Easygas and Liquigas prices show ‘benefits of liberalisation’ – government

The fact that Easygas and Liquigas had announced prices below the limits set by the Malta Resources Authority “reflects the benefits of market liberalisation,” according to the government.

In a statement welcoming gas prices announced by the two local competing gas suppliers, government however failed to mention how the price limits established by the MRA represent an increase in gas prices of between 10 to 50 per cent.

(see table below for government’s summary of gas prices by both suppliers)

The government also said that gas distributors are obliged to sell cylinders according to the prices established by the two suppliers, and in cases of doubt, consumers have every right to request a receipt of sale and subsequently confirm the price with the relevant supplier.

The Consumer and Competition Department also informed the public that Maltese and Gozitan consumers that gas regulators are compatible with cylinders from both suppliers, meaning that no consumer will need to change their regulators.

[The fact that Easygas and Liquigas had announced prices below the limits set by the Malta Resources Authority “reflects the benefits of market liberalisation,” according to the government] This bullshit after they increased the price of cylinders almost 100% since "liberalization"?? Who's the joker who said this?? Did he say it with a straight face??
