PN executive green-lights PD coalition deal
Discussions between the two parties had been going on since September 2016
The agreement between the Nationalist Party and the Democratic Party – whereby PD candidates will contest the next election under the PN ticket – was tonight approved unanimously by the PN’s executive committee.
Discussions between the two parties had been going on since September, when PN leader Simon Busuttil first said the party would welcome anyone wanting to work with them to ensure Malta regains a clean government and serious leadership.
Commenting after the committee’s vote, Busuttil said that the country’s prime minister was currently facing a criminal investigation.
“Our country cannot remain in this situation,” he said. “This is why Maltese and Gozitans alike from across all strata of society are now coming together in a national force.”
More details about the agreement between the two parties are expected to be made public tomorrow morning.
