Twelve Rapid Intervention Unit officers transferred since election
Police sources have confirmed that the officers were all Nationalist Party supporters
Twelve Rapid Intervention Unit police officers working in Valletta, Hamrun, St Julians, Birkirkara, Paola and other districts were all transferred to new posts yesterday, police sources have told MaltaToday.
They said that the officers in question were all known to be Nationalist Party supporters.
Earlier this week the Nationalist Party accused the Prime Minister of hypocrisy when he said he was committed to national unity, since several “vindictive transfers” indicated otherwise, while calling on Joseph Muscat to reverse the transfers.
In a statement, the PN said that it was pointless for Muscat to speak about national unity in public, when several government employees had been transferred vindictively since Labour’s election victory last week.
“Muscat is facing a test that will determine whether he is ready to walk the talk. If he doesn’t reverse all those vindictive transfers, then the Maltese public will know that it is untrue that we are all Malta,” it said.
