Transfusion Centre appeals for donors

In a statement, the Blood Transfusion Centre explained that due to the seasonal influenza, less people were giving blood and reserves were running very low.

“Unless the reserve is increased by Tuesday morning, a number of patients would be unable to receive blood and some scheduled operations could be cancelled,” the statement said.

The centre has appealed to people who felt healthy to immediately donate blood.

Those who want to donate blood should go to the Blood Transfusion Centre in Guardamangia, which is open daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Donors should present their identity card or driving licence and should encourage others to join them, the centre said.
