Merkel departs for Cyprus

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has left Malta early this morning, on her way to Cyprus.

Merkel, who yesterday evening held talks with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at Castille and met with President George Abela and Opposition leader Joseph Muscat, left for Nicosia at 08:15am.

The Chancellor was seen off by Prime Minister Gonzi and inspected a guard of honour at the MIA apron.

Last night, Angela Merkel was hosted to State Dinner at the Auberge de Castille.
