Police to charge 'reckless' driver over Ta' Qali incident

A young man who reportedly was at the wheel of a vehicle in Ta' Qali late on Saturday night, is expected to be charged with reckless driving, and having caused the serious injury of his 18-year old friend.

Police investigations into the critical injuries sustained by 18-year-old Robert Attard from Zebbug late on Saturday night, revealed that he was standing 'tray-sliding' on a wooden pallet, that was being towed by a pick-up truck.

During a manoever, Attard flew off the pallet and slammed his head onto a wall. He sustained serious head injuries smashing the base of his skull and wasrushed to Mater Dei.

'The Times' reports this morning that the pick-up truck driveris expected to be charged in court, even though the injured youth would have agreed to the stunt.

Tray-sliding is not new to Malta. It involves a person sitting or standing on a tray, or a piece of wood, and pulled along by a vehicle.
