Bulgarian jailed for 12 years

A 28-year-old Bulgarian who pleaded guilty to drug importation was sentenced for 12 years in prison and fined €30,000.

Eshref Eshref was initially meant to stand trial, but had then decided to admit he was guilty of the crime.

Eshref had come to Malta in May of 2009, where he was stooped by the Drug Squad and Customs officers. The officers had been tipped off about his arrival from Brussels.

Eshref was found carrying 92 cocaine capsules and 24 heroin capsules in a false compartment of his luggage.
