Man, boy admit to stealing furniture worth thousands of euros

A 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy admitted to a series of burglaries from a number of houses which were either abandoned or rarely used.

Raymond Zammit, 24, and the minor, whose name cannot be published, both admitted to stealing furniture, including chests of drawers, clocks, painting, old coins and other objects of historic value from houses in Msida, Birkirkara, Pietà and Mosta.

The men, both from Birkirkara, were caught by the police following intensive observations by the Department of Criminal Investigations. Last Sunday afternoon, the police found raided the men’s residences where they found a large quantity of objects which were reported missing.

Police had to use two trucks and five vans to carry all the stolen objects. Many of the objects were found at the minor’s residence, who used to tell his mother he acquired the objects innocently.

Both men reportedly have an interest in old furniture, with the minor being described “as an expert”.

Both of them have been granted bail on a personal guarantee of €5000 each. The sentence is expected to be given next Friday.
