Glenn Bedingfield appointed deputy chairman of committees
The motion was approved in parliament today with all government MPs voting in favour
Government MP Glenn Bedingfield has been appointed deputy chairman of committees of the House after Prime Minister Joseph Muscat presented a motion in parliament on Monday.
The motion was approved, with government MPs voting in favour and Opposition MPs voting against.
The role was occupied by former MP Luciano Busuttil during the last legislature.
In cases where the House resolves itself into a committee, the speaker normally leaves the house with his seat remaining vacant.
Instead, the deputy speaker, or Chairman of Committees sits in front of the speaker’s platform and oversees proceedings. In cases where the deputy speaker is unavailable, it is the deputy chairman of committees that must take over.
