Alex Perici Calascione set to announce PN leadership bid
Informed sources confirm that outgoing PN treasurer is set to submit his nomination for the leadership election
The Nationalist Party’s outgoing treasurer, Alex Perici Calascione, is set to announce his bid for the leadership election, informed sources have told MaltaToday.
Perici Calascione, 55, has already confirmed that he was seriously considering contesting the upcoming leadership election.
Informed sources told MaltaToday that Perici Calascione enjoys the backing of a number of members of parliament and that he has spent the past weeks gauging the interest of the party’s members and MPs.
Perici Calascione contested the last general election and obtained 148 first preference votes, having contested the eleventh district which saw PN leader Simon Busuttil taking in over 11,000 first preference votes. Perici Calascione received 1,322 second preference votes.
The only two persons who have officially confirmed their intention to run are lawyer and Birkirkara FC president Adrian Delia and shadow Gozo minister, Chris Said.
Perici Calascione has been practising law since 1987, principally within the sphere of corporate and financial services and international contracts and has acted as legal advisor to a number of leading Maltese and foreign companies and organisations.
In 1991, he was appointed Commissioner of Justice and served until 1996, when he was made partner at Emmanuel Mallia and Associates (Malta). He then joined PCM Legal where he has been partner since 2012.
He was elected to the executive committee of the Nationalist Party in March 2013 and subsequently elected to the post of party treasurer and member of the administrative council. He was elected once again to the executive committee of the Nationalist Party and subsequently confirmed as party treasurer on 4 June 2015.
