Superintendence intervenes on Casa Lanfreducci application
Superintendence for Cultural Heritage is still examining application to turn basement of Casa Lanfreducci in to showers, toilets and changing rooms.
MEPA has recently consulted the superintendence on the application to use the basement of Casa Lanfreducci for facilities associated with the new open air theater.
The Superintendence is currently in the process of examining this application, superintendence official Nathaniel Cutajar told MaltaToday. The government has proposed the conversion of the basement in to changing rooms, toilets and showers for the nearby performance space.
Flimkien Ghall-Ambjent Ahjar objected to the "usurpation" of this historical site describing the development of these facilities as "desacration" of the memory of the Knight of Saint John" because the basement still contained the remains of those who died at the time of the Great Siege.
Yesterday environmental NGO Flimkien Ghall-Ambjent Ahjar published photos of the basement of Casa Lanfreducci, previously part of the Our Lady of Victory crypt. FAA has described the central arch supporting the large main room is a marvel of vernacular architecture and possibly unique to this site.
