Edwin Vassallo backing Said for PN leader
The Nationalist MP who voted against the Marriage Equality Bill last month insists the PN should not turn its back on Christian values • Chris Said reiterates resounding ‘No’ to abortion and euthanasia
The Nationalist MP at the centre of controversy last month – after ignoring party instructions and voting against the Marriage Equality Bill in parliament – is backing Chris Said for party leader.
Edwin Vassallo, who was addressing a political activity organised by Said in Imgarr, said that the Nationalist Party needed to reflect values that make society stronger.
He insisted that the PN would be mistaken to turn its back on Christian values, which are indispensable in a healthy society.
He called on Said to ensure that – if he became leader – the PN embrace those values that distinguish it from other parties.
Said, who is contesting the PN leadership together with Adrian Delia, Alex Perici Calascione and Frank Portelli, vowed that the PN under his watch would embrace values respect human dignity.
“You have my word, with me as leader of the PN, a clear ‘No’ to abortion and euthanasia,” he said. “
On other ethical and moral issues, I will grant a free vote in Parliament, after a broad discussion within the party and its section committees and branches.”
Said said that this would ensure the PN become truly inclusive and representive of all members of society.
