'Unsafe' toys withdrawn from market
Four toys have been withdrawn from the local market after warnings were issued regarding their safety
In accordance with the Technical Regulations Division of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), the Market Surveillance Directorate has withdrawn four toys from the local market amidst reports that they were dangerous.
Small parts could easily be detached from the toys, which are choking hazards for children. Also, three out of the four toys featured a loop that when stretched, extends to a length that can circle around the neck of a child, risking strangulation.
This has led to the Directorate having to take the necessary precautions to ensure the withdrawal of such products.
The non-compliant toys include:
- Elastic "Puffer Caterpillar with Light", with model number TY3633.
- Elastic ball with brand name ECLT, with model number 6582, manufactured in China.
- Elastic "Puffer Ball", manufactured in China.
- Green and purple foam ball, with model number 4706015, manufactured in China.
According to the MCCAA, all of the above-mentioned toys are available in various colours and urge customers, who have bought any of them to immediately refrain from using them and return the toys to the outlet they purchased them from.
The Directorate goes on to remind manufacturers and importers of the importance of distributing only safe products within the market and warns that anyone responsible for placing their products on the market, must ensure that they are abiding by EU laws.
