Valletta local council to move into Café Premier by year’s end
Restoration works underway at the iconic site of Café Premier, controversially expropriated in 2014
Justice and culture minister Owen Bonnici has promised that works on Valletta’s Café Premier will be concluded by the end of the year, as he marked 100 days since the start of this legislature.
Speaking at the iconic site of Café Premier, controversially expropriated in 2014, Bonnici said that by year's end the local council will be operating out of the premises, adding that a part of the site is to be dedicated to public purposes, which include a health center.
The building is going to belong to the people, Bonnici insisted, and not just the residents of Valletta. “We are giving back this building to the public”.
Bonnici inspected restoration works that are due to be completed before the handover, in time for the Valletta 2018 celebrations.
Bonnici thanked all those who contributed to the project.
The best news, the minister added, was that whilst this project was underway, another 14 major projects were being carried out in Valletta.
The projects, he added, would “make Valletta a beautiful experience by next year”.
