Valletta demonstration to call for justice in Caruana Galizia murder
Following the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, Civil Society Network calls for justice in national demonstration
Members of the public are expected to gather in Valletta this afternoon in a show of defiance in the wake of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder.
A demonstration organised by the Civil Society Network is expected to be held at 4pm near City Gate.
It is being supported by the Labour Party, the Nationalist Party, Alternattiva Demokratika, and Partit Demokratiku. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will not be attending.
Opposition leader Adrian Delia, who had previously confirmed that he will be at the demonstration, has since said that he will in fact not be attending, since the protest was "not about him", and he did not want to turn it into a partisan matter.

This is a cynical and irresponsible move that shows just how much the Prime Minister has lost all sense of shame. pic.twitter.com/LGd5f7VTG1

In an appeal on the eve of the demonstration, spokespeople for the organising committee asked for politicians not to stay at the front of the march, and called on people not to carry partisan or anti-partisan messages. Speakers at the event will not include MPs.
Large crowds are expected as thousands attended a spontaneous vigil in Sliema on Monday, and journalists showed up in strong numbers on Thursday for a manifestation outside Parliament.
