Senglea residents appeal for order

Senglea residents are making an impassioned plea to authorities to ensure law and order in their locality in the wake of disturbances by establishments on the Senglea seafront.

Sister newspaper Illum reports that a number of residents have come forward requesting the police, the Malta Tourism Authority and Mepa to ensure that all licence conditions imposed on bar and restaurant owners are enforced.

The residents have complained that while music is left blaring till late at night, tables and chairs that are meant to be withdrawn from pavements at 11pm are left where they are, and patrons park on double yellow lines.

Many residents claim to have been threatened and intimidated by bar owners after they file reports to police, and are also incurring hundreds of euros in legal fees to challenge the same owners in court.

Shows the incompetence of the Gonzi regime except where it concerns their double salaries and perks and giving public property to their inner circle friends. This is happening everywhere a bar or restaurant opens and the law must be amended so that after the first report it will be kept closed for three months and on the second report all licenses are withdrawn and they are closed forever with the owner precluded form having any other license and if it's a company all directors and shareholders similarly precluded from ever engaging in business. That is the only way to stop these cowboys.
