57 people charged with assaulting a police officer so far this year
By the end of September, 16 had been found guilty in a court of law
Fifty-seven individuals have been charged with assaulting a police officer so far this year, with a total of 16 people being found guilty, according to statistics tabled in parliament this evening by Home Affairs minister Michael Farrugia.
The minister was responding to a parliamentary question put to him by Government MP Glenn Bedingfield, who asked the minister for the number of people charged in court over assaulting policemen since 2013.
“There are several cases that are still sub judice but out of those found guilty, penalties included incarceration, fines, probation, warnings and suspended sentences,” added the minister.
