Labour Party welcomes agreement with teachers

The Malta Union of Teachers suspended a planned strike scheduled to take place tomorrow after the government met a key demand to increase salaries by 20%.

Though talks are still on-going, teachers will now “benefit from the surplus” of their increased wages; which is great news for the country, said the government

The strength of the economy, the government added, not only led to teachers being able to request better conditions but also allowed the government to offer them new conditions.

Teachers have long been demanding improved conditions, but the government said it had to “start from the bottom”, righting the past wrongs of the Nationalist government’s previous failures and leading the country forward, they added.
