Case deferred as prisoner not taken to court in time

The compilation of evidence against Romeo Bone, the man who stands charged with attempting to “eliminate” PC Mario Portelli, has been put off to Friday.

The case was deferred after Bone, who is being held at the Corradino Prisons, was not taken in court on time this morning. The sitting was due to start at 9am.

Magistrate Silvio Meli rescheduled the hearing to Friday after waiting for half an hour for Bone to appear as officers tried to contact the prisons.

The 34-year-old from Floriana is being accused of having tried to “eliminate” Portelli, the star witness in a string of cases all connected for former inspector David Gatt who stands charged with a number of armed hold-ups.
