Education authorities condemn aggression after a secondary school teacher was assaulted by a parent this morning at the Cospicua secondary school • Union directs teachers to refuse school entry to student with 'history of aggressive behaviour'
An aggressive parent turned up at the Cospicua secondary school this morning and assaulted a teacher, in a case that was reported to the police.
In a short statement that did not elaborate on the nature of the incident, the Education Ministry confirmed the aggression took place and condemned the "violent act".
The ministry said a police report was filed and demanded that all steps at law be taken against the individual concerned.
Sources at the school said the parent was already in an aggressive mood when he turned up at the school in the morning to confront a teacher over disciplinary action taken against his son. The teacher is believed to have suffered slight injuries.
Meanwhile, the Malta Union of Teachers has directed educators at the secondary school to stop all communication with the student and his parents. It also instructed its members at the school to refuse the student school and class entry.
The MUT said the student had "a history of aggressive behaviour".
The union appealed for safety measures in schools and called on the Education Ministry to make sure all necessary steps were taken regarding this case.
