Police bust human trafficking ring
Twenty people who were smuggled into Malta to work were rescued by local authorities
The police have busted a criminal human trafficking ring, rescuing some 20 people who the Home Affairs ministry said had been the victims of human trafficking.
In a brief press statement sent out on Thursday evening, the Home Affairs minister and the secretariat for citizenship, said that the 20 people discovered by local authorities had been brought to Malta to work.
“Local authorities immediately set about finding shelter for these individuals, while Identity Malta initiated a mechanism by which it gives emergency status to all victims, both in terms of residency, as well as permits to work,” read the statement.
