Stephen Calleya awarded German Order of Merit
The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany was awarded to MEDAC Director Professor Stephen Calleya on Wednesday by German Ambassador Bernd Braun.
The official ceremony was held at the German residence, where Ambassador Braun presented Calleja with the order of merit on behalf of the German President.
Professor Stephen Calleya is Director of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) and is a renowned expert in Euro-Mediterranean Affairs.
In a statement, the Germany embassy said that Braun paid tribute to the work of Professor Calleya, “whose continuous efforts led to the establishment of the German Chair for Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at MEDAC in 2009 and to close institutional links between MEDAC and German academic institutions.”
Under the direction of Professor Calleya, “MEDAC has become an internationally recognised educational institution, a centre for an open, intercultural dialogue, with the Mediterranean as its focus” said Ambassador Braun while awarding him with the merit.
“Throughout his career, Professor Calleya has championed regional cooperation and integration through academic and policy-oriented programmes and initiatives.”
