Updated | Roof collapse in St Venera, man in critical condition

In a statement, Police said how it was notified of the collapse in Misrah il-Barrieri at roughly  3pm and that, when officers arrived at the scene, it transpired that there was a 58-year-old man inside the building when the roof collapsed.

Members of the Civil Protection Department (CPD) were immediately called to the scene. Police said that the man was rescued at roughly 4:00 pm following efforts to locate the man and extract him from the rubble. Medical assistance was also standing ready.

The man has since been rescued from the rubble by members of the CPD, and rushed to hospital for medical attention. Later, police confirmed that the man is in critical condition.

The street within which the collapse occurred, earlier closed to traffic, has since been reopened, the statement added.
