Police investigate major drug find off Gozo

The drugs, calculated to weigh some 25 kilos, were found inside waterproof containers that were concealed in a large sack that was found floating in the sea off Dahlet Qorrot in Gozo.

The fisherman alerted the authorities who inititiated investigations.

Large quantities of drugs are often smuggled into the country by offloading them on the high seas off Malta and Gozo  in waterproof containers, with GPS trackers for them to be found later by persons on smaller boats.

A Magisterial inquiry is underway.
