Over 3,000 pending social housing requests, 60% waiting over three years

Around 60% of the total number of applicants for social housing, whose applications are pending, have been waiting for over three years for a decision on their request.

Replying to a parliamentary question by PN MP Claudio Grech, Social Solidarity Minister Michael Falzon tabled figures in parliament, yesterday, showing that there are currently 3,291 pending applications for social housing.

Of these, 367 have been pending for less than a year, 554 for between one and two years, 381 for two to three years, and 1,989 - just over 60% - have been up in the air for over three years.

The information also showed that there are 549 pending applications asking for their current government-owned property to be exchanged.

Amongst these, 54 have been waiting for under a year, 87 for one to two years, 60 for two to three years, and 348 for more than three years.
