[WATCH] Adrian Delia cagey about David Casa allegations

Asked about the allegations surrounding PN MEP David Casa published by MaltaToday, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia exhibited trust in the MEP and reserved his statements to the 2019 Budget, the scope of the press conference and his previous speech in Parliament

Adrian Delia said that David Casa was very clear with regards to his position on the MaltaToday allegations but refused to say whether there was room for an internal inquiry into the MEPs conduct.

After Delia's budget speech in Parliament, Delia addressed a press conference and summarised his criticisms on the government's 2019 Budget proposals.

When asked what his reaction was to the allegations on David Casa brought forward by MaltaToday, Delia said, "David Casa was very clear in his statements. He answered to the allegations once, twice, three times in his statements and the best person to answer, if questions remain, would be Casa himself." Delia did not, however, comment on whether an internal inquiry was required.

MaltaToday had published the declarations of a former aide of the Nationalist MEP David Casa which said in a sworn affidavit that the euro-parliamentarian had a cocaine habit between the years 2009 and 2017 during which the two had a close relationship.

Other allegations included financial irregularities, namely that a former longstanding aide to Nationalist MEP David Casa was paid in excess of €100,000 annually, but never pocketed the full amount of a deliberately inflated salary so that Casa's office makes full use of the European Parliamentarian's salary budget allowance.

While the veracity of both stories has been denied by David Casa who said that MaltaToday had sunk "to a new low", Casa has not yet filed legal proceedings against the whistleblower or the journalist, Saviour Balzan, who published them. Casa referred to the allegations as "fabrication of fresh nonsense on a weekly basis." He said that it "is intended to destabilise me, my team and my work. You are only strengthening my resolve."
