Xlendi regeneration could see replenishment of sandy beach
Xlendi will get 60 new parking spots, refurbished boathouses and possibly a bigger sandy beach, as Konrad Mizzi and Justyne Caruana unveil plans for the seaside locality’s regeneration
Xlendi’s sandy beach has been eroded over the years but talks are underway to replenish the bay with sand, according to Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi.
The project will form part of the regeneration of the popular seaside locality in Gozo.
More immediate works will, however, be carried out in the car park. An investment of €750,000 to reorganise the car park will see 60 more parking spots created.
Mizzi and Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana announced the plans on Saturday.
Mizzi said talks were being held between the Malta Tourism Authority, the Gozo Ministry and the Foundation for Tourism Zones over sand replenishment at Xlendi bay.
Caruana said the pier in Xlendi had been rebuilt and in the coming days a tender will be published for the regeneration of the boathouses in the area that are used by fishermen.
She said that the final tender for a study of the Marsalforn breakwater will also be published soon.
Over the summer, works will start on the regeneration of the Mġarr marina, Caruana added.
