Silvio Schembri files police report over fake Bitcoin advert
Parliamentary secretary Silvio Schembri has filed a police report with the Cyber Crime Unit over a fake online news article claiming he endorsed a 'Bitcoin Revolution'
Digital Economy parliamentary secretary Silvio Schembri has filed a police report to the Cyber Crime Unit after a company under the name Nexus posted online adverts which they claimed he had endorsed.
In a statement on Wednesday, the secretariat said the advert featured a spam article posted on a site called Major News, which article was sponsored on Facebook claiming Schembri’s endorsement for a "Bitcoin Revolution". The secretariat, however, had never endorsed nor authorised the adverts.
The matter was also referred to Facebook for the social network to take action from its end.
Schembri strongly denies the acclaimed endorsement and said he had requested that the relevant authorities investigate the matter.
