New judges, magistrates sworn in

President George Abela presides over the swearing-In ceremonies of new judges and magistrates.

The President of the Republic today presided over the swearing-in of Judge Silvio Meli, Judge Anthony Ellul, Magistrate Francesco Depasquale, Magistrate Neville Camilleri and Magistrate Josette Demicoli.

The Prime Minister, the Hon Lawrence Gonzi, the Chief Justice, Dr Silvio Camilleri and the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici were in attendance at the Palace, Valletta.

Silvio Meli was appointed magistrate in 1990, and is a visiting lecturer on the philosophy of law at the University of Malta and the University of South Texas, USA.

Tonio Ellul was formerly a lawyer in the office of the Attorney General and was appointed magistrate in 2007.

Francesco Depasquale was formerly judiciary assistant and legal secretary to the Chief Justice. Neville Camilleri was a member on the Refugee Appeals Board and an arbiter at the Malta Centre for Arbitration. Josette Demicoli was formerly at the Office of the Attorney General, and later a judiciary assistant.

Well done and congratulations to all of you! Finally Judge Silvio Meli is in his right place, and where he should have been for quite a long time! I'm sure that you will continue your great contribution towards justice in this country. Good luck!
