New hunters in Gozo drop by half over 6 years
Since Malta’s accession to the European Union in 2004, the number of hunters applying for a first-time hunting license dropped from 56 in 2004, to 26 in 2010.
Weekly newspaper Illum reports that between 2004 and 2010, the highest amount of first-time applications for hunting licences in Gozo was in 2005, with a total of 83.
During the following year (2006) there were 51 applications for a first-time hunting licence, while the figures steadily dropped in later years. The lowest number of applications was 20 in 2008.
According to the same statistics, Illum reports how there are 1,533 hunters which are active in Gozo.
