London tightens security amidst bomb threat

Irish republican dissidents have issued a bomb threat for central London, Scotland Yard have confirmed.

Security in London was heightened after a “non-specific” threat was issued to authorities last night. News media report that whilst police activity increased across the city, there has also been a controlled explosion of a suitcase in Northumberland Avenue.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A bomb threat warning has been received relating to central London today. The threat is not specific in relation to location or time.”

People in London were urged to go on with their normal lives, but were warned to look out for “unusual activity or behaviour.”

The Irish dissidents’ warning came a day before the Queen was due to make a visit to Ireland.
