Strauss-Kahn released from bail as accuser appears to have lied

Prosecutors have agreed Strauss-Kahn should be freed "on his own recognisance," meaning he must simply promise to appear in court.

The case is reported to be close to collapse after serious doubts arose about the credibility of his accuser who appears to have lied and changed her version several times.

Prosecutors planned to outline their concerns about the 32-year-old maid's credibility on Friday and retract their demands for strict bail conditions.

Investigators are also not backing away from earlier evidence which showed semen had been found on the maid's uniform.

Strauss-Kahn, who resigned as head of the International Monetary Fund to defend himself, vigorously denies the charges.
