Man executed in China
State news agency Xinhua has reported that China executed a truck driver for killing a Mongol herder.
According to police reports, on May 10, the truck driver, Li Lindong, hit and dragged the Mongol herder, Mergen, for 145 meters before he died. Mergen had been out on the road with a number of other people, protesting against the noise and pollution produced by coal trucks passing through the grasslands.
Li Lindong was sentenced in June after a six-hour trial. According to state media, his fellow driver, who was sitting next to him, was also convicted of homicide and sentenced to life in prison.
The Associated Press also reported that the report appeared to not be widely circulated.
