Isreali arrests West Bank Hamas leader

Israel has arrested a top leader of the Hamas, only weeks after he was released from jail.

International news agency AFP reports that Israel has arrested Hassan Yusef as he tried to cross a checkpoint between the West Bank cities of Ramallah and Nablus.

Yusef had been released during August after serving six years in prison for “membership of a terrorist organisation”. The news agency reports that he was freed as part of a mass release of Isreali and Palestinian prisoners due to overcrowding.

The agency also claimed that Yusef had disowned his own son in March after he admitted to having spied on Hamas for Israel and had led to the arrest of senior militants.
