Former IMF chief back in France
Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn returned to France today, together with his wife.
Once a favourite of the opposition party to run against French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Strauss-Kahn was reportedly faced by an “icy greeting” from his fellow party colleagues.
Strauss-Kahn political career took a downfall last May when he was arrested and charged with the sexual assault and attempted rape of a hotel maid. Earlier last week, the New York prosecutors dropped their case against him.
The former finance minister and his wife arrived in Paris at 7.05am local time. Though smiling, they delivered no statement to the press present at the Charles de Gaulle airport.
But his return to France is being described as an “embarrassment” for France’s opposition Social Party as it prepares to vote to choose a candidate to run against Sarkozy.
