UK Prime Minister to allow TV cameras in criminal trials

Television cameras are expected to be allowed into criminal courts for the first time to record judges sentencing criminals.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is expected to give his approval to allow television cameras in to film sentencing procedures.

The Guardian reports that even thought the broadcast of judicial verdicts will be allowed, it is though it will not permit the process of the trial leading up to a verdict to be shown in order to protect witnesses.

It is however not clear how many courts TV cameras may have access to under the proposals or when cases could start being shown. Only the proceedings of the Supreme Court can currently be televised.

Sky News has pushed for allowing TV cameras in court forward.
