Woman shot dead, teenager dies from wounds in Syria

A woman was shot dead whilst a teenager died following an attack at a funeral in Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

International news agency AFP reports that a teenager died of wounds after security forces started shooting at mourners at the funeral of an activist.

"A 17-year-old succumbed to his wounds on Sunday after security forces the day before fired on a crowd at the funeral of Ghiyath Matar," the Observatory told AFP.

Human Rights Watch said Matar had been in the forefront in organizing protests against the Assad regime, and died in detention after being tortured.

A stray bullet killed the woman, a 40-year-old, as security forces were tracking wanted people in the town of Bukamal.

The two deaths were not the only ones over the weekends, as human rights watchdogs report that on Saturday, at least 12 were killed.
