Government forces fire shells at Yemen protest camp
Yemen’s government forces continued to fire shells at a protester camp in Sanaa
At least two people have been killed in Sanaa as government forces continued to fire shells at a protest camp, BBC reports.
According to reports, the forces launched a crackdown on the protesters on Sunday, killing more than 50 people in two days.
In an uprising which has been going for most of the year, groups of protesters have been occupying various areas in a bid to oust President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Witnesses say snipers positioned on rooftops in the capital have been shooting at civilians.
“We were walking back from prayers. All of a sudden a rocket hit close by from out of nowhere, and some people fell down,” one of the protesters was reported as saying. “And then a second one came and that’s when we saw the two martyred.”
BBC also reports that troops loyal to the protesters on Monday seized a base of the republican guards.
