19 killed in Nepal tourist plane in Kathmandu

Small Buddha Air plane crashed killing all 19 people on board including 16 tourists returning from viewing Mount Everest and other peaks.

One survivor died on the way to hospital from grievous injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The aircraft lost contact in foggy weather with the control tower. According to witnesses, the plane was on fire breaking up as it descended.

Ground search teams were sent to recover the bodies due to bad weather restricting helicopters unable to land.

Not uncommon, several other small aircraft accidents have been recorded in Nepal.

14 people were killed in August 2010 heading towards the Everest region due to bad weather.
