UN Security Councils calls to end violence in Yemen

18 civilians and 11 defected soldiers were killed on Saturday resulting in a call for violence by the UN Security Council to end in Yemen.

Forces loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh attacked protesters and defected soldiers loyal to the Yemeni people's revolution.

Many were injured or left dead raising the death toll to 144 since President Saleh’s return.

15 Security Council nations called for all sides to “reject violence, including against peaceful and unarmed civilians, and show maximum restraint”.

Saleh was urged by White House spokesman Jay Carney to “initiate full transfer of power and arrange for presidential elections to be held before the end of the year.”

Saleh returned from Riyadh to put his house “in order” and “prepared for elections”.

One Saudi official said, “He will leave after this.” But did not specify whether Saleh will leave Yemen altogether.

Saleh will "leave" after this, the official said without specifying whether he would leave Yemen altogether or only leave power.
